Far North RSA Bowling Club News Report:    Patron’s Triples Tournament with a twist.

Defying the weather 16 teams including visiting teams from Coopers Beach, Kaitaia Combined, and Church Road Clubs turned out to play the annual Patrons Bowls Tournament on Saturday 9 July. The drizzly rain and very wet green delayed the start of play so the first game was run as a trivia contest with opposing teams playing against each other. The weather improved enough after 11am to start play with 2 games played back to back, then after lunch the last game finished play just before the rainy weather set in again.

When it came to the prize giving President Ian Macnee, after thanking Moss the Greenkeeper, Dawn the caterer, Kath the raffle organiser, and the convenors Pat and Adele, announced that Vice President Max Foster had asked and Patron Bruce Bird had agreed that Max could sponsor the tournament this year. Max before presenting the prizes spoke on how much one benefits from being part of the Committee and how the Club relies on the many hours of work that the Committee did to make these tournaments and the Club successful and that the Club relies on the members of the Clubs support of the tournaments to make them the success that they are.

Max then presented the prizes to the following:

Of the two teams who each won 4 games, Barry Allison, Trevor Smith, Nancy Page with 4 wins, 20 ends and 36 points Took out the title..

Dave Riddle, Margaret Perry, Ian Panther with 4 wins 16 ends 36 points were 2nd

Marty Doak, Freda May, Colin May with 3 and wins and a draw 19 ends 46 points 3rd

Ian Macnee, Val Jones, Lillian Wells,  with 3 wins 12 ends 17 points  4th.

The lucky draw boxes of chocolates which was drawn at random were won by the Church Road team of Shirley Young, Tessa Pont and Hisae Nagawa.
