The Far North RSA Bowling Club opened their summer bowling season on Saturday 29th August. President Ian Macnee introduced his new committee and asked brother and sister bowlers to stand for a moments silence for past members who have passed on during the previous year. Our Patron Bruce Bird and life member Selwyn Hargreaves delivered the first Jack and bowl to begin the new incoming season.

There were 18 teams (being a full field) who entered into the KPH Construction sponsored tournament. The teams from Coopers Beach, Houhora, Kaitaia Church Road, Kaitaia Combined and our own members enjoyed an early morning tea with two games of an 1hr.10 back to back with lunch and two games in the afternoon. The drizzle of rain tried to put a dampener on our opening day however we got through the day by shortening the two afternoon games to an hour. It was a relief as remembering last year (2014) opening day was a washout.

A lovely afternoon tea was had by all, and President Ian thanked the sponsor (who consequently has been sponsoring this tournament since 1996), the timekeeper, greenkeeper, match committee and the kitchen helpers who helped to make the tournament a huge success. The lucky prize winners were;

John Hodgson, Marge Milich, Joanne Milich, 3 wins, 18 ends, 38 points, 1st; Liz Muru, Ian Macnee, Evelyn Bradley, 3w, 18e, 34p, 2nd; Dave Riddle, Glynis Muir, Margaret Perry, 3w, 17e, 35p, 3rd; Brian Bellas, Moss Hotere, Pearl Tahana, 3w, 17e, 33p, 4th. Lucky Draw was won by Bruce Bird, Max Foster, Chris Lediard.

The next tournament is on the 23rd September being 2x4x2 pairs. Entries to Adele Gardner ph 4080638.
