Far North (Kaitaia RSA) Bowling Club Closing day.

Despite the showers of rain during the first of 4 games, each of 1 hour 15 minutes,  15 teams of mixed triples from Coopers Beach, Church Road and Kaitaia Combined joined our own players  in an enjoyable  day of bowls marking the closing of the summer season for  the FNRSA Kaitaia Bowling Club.

After thanking the green keeper, caterer, raffle seller and conveners, President Ian Macnee asked Vice President Lillian Wells to present the prizes on behalf of Farmlands who sponsored this tournament. First prize went to the only team to win all 4 games, being  Mike Reddy, Greg Taylor and Yvonne Anderson with 4 wins, 24 ends and 44 points, followed by Tupu Campbell, Paul Huxtable and Aroha Kara with 3 wins plus a draw, 21 ends and 39 points  Third was Jean Huxtable, Cole and Kiripaka Kara with 3 wins, 24 ends and 50 points  It was great to see that three members of these prizewinning teams were school children and this being their first year of playing bowls.

The lucky draw chocolates went to the team of Dave Riddle, Brian Cavey and Shirley Crabtree.

Members were reminded of our Club AGM  to be held on Sunday 7th May  at 10.30am and our club prize giving  on the evening of Saturday  May 27th.

Also our weekly Thursday roll ups that were changed to mornings to dodge the heat of the summer weather, return to afternoons as from Thursday 4th May.  Names in by 12.30pm. Play starts at 1pm.

Although officially the end of the summer season bowling does not finish as it is now the start of the winter season beginning with a fun day on Sunday 21st May (single entries) and an exceptionally busy month in June with Tiger Turf winter League on Saturday 3 June, Pak N Save mixed triples Saturday 10 June and Doak Memorial tournament (changed from 21 May, now being held on Sunday 18 June).
