Sunday 18 June proved to be a lovely early winter weather when FNRSA Kaitaia Bowling club hosted the very popular annual Doak Memorial mixed triples bowls tournament. 19 teams from Coopers Beach, Houhora, Kaitaia Combined , Oruru plus our own members played 4 games, with a sumptuous lunch after the third game, provided and served by at least 13 Doak family members, and then afternoon tea after the 4th game and before the prize giving.
President Ian Macnee spoke of the wonderful memories the club members had of both the very popular late Pat and Farouk Doak over the years they had played bowls for the Kaitaia RSA Bowling Club.  The memories being carried through from year to year by this tournament.
With every tournament there are winners and losers and the winners of this one who were then presented with their prize sand trophy by Grant Doak were:
First:  Peter and Ella Dorreen and Toto Thompson with 4 wins 26 ends and 57 points, 2nd  also with 4 wins, Bill Clode, Joanne Milich and Kyra Rapana 20 ends and 33 points. Third: Mike Reddy, Don Lilly and Evelyn Bradley with 3 wins plus a draw, 20 ends and 58 points. Fourth and fifth places were very close with Brian Bellas, Pearl Tahana and Sonny Hokai, 3 wins, 21 ends and 42 points, then Ross Hulme, Allan Bright and Mary Wright, 3 wins, 21 ends and 41 points.
Lucky losers chocolates when drawn at random were won by Paul and Jean Huxtable and 9 year old  Ezrah Hill.
Thanks were given to Kevin for his devotion given to perfecting the greens, Lillian and Mary-Ann for running the raffles and morning tea delivered by Dawn and Jean Huxtable and Evelyn Bradley for convening the tournament.
The Patrons open mixed triples Tournament will be held on Saturday 8th  July. There are still places available for teams. Please phone Adele, 4080638 or add your team to the list in the clubrooms if you would like to join us for this.
